Wobbler woos regulars!
Grain is brewing a special beer just for the Plough in Wissett, and the Beccles and Bungay Journal posted this article on 2 November 07

A new beer made especially for The Plough in Wissett has beaten off the giants of the real ale world to become the pub's best seller. The Wissett Wobbler, a malty bitter brewed at the Grain Brewery in Alburgh, was launched at the beginning of October - and has swiftly overtaken Adnams as the pub's top selling beer. Priced at £2.60 a pint, or £2.50 for a bottle, The Wissett Wobbler is a 'session' beer at 4.1pc volume, so people can theoretically have a few pints 'without falling over.' |
'I'm absolutely delighted with it', said Nick Sumner, landlord of The Plough and co-designer of the beer. 'I worked with Geoff Wright at the Grain Brewery. I had ideas for a beer that I thought would sell well and he made it.'
Twenty locals travelled to the brewery for a tasting session before Mr Sumner could finalise the recipe, and it was immediately a hit with the drinkers of Wissett. 'I expected the initial novelty value to help sell it, but people are sticking with it', said Debbie Sumner, landlady at The Plough. 'There's one guy who always drinks Adnams, but he now always has a Wissett Wobbler as well.'
The name was thought up by the editor of the Wissett Web, a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to the village, who ran a competition to name the beer.
The Wissett Wobbler became available in 500ml bottles last week, with Christmas packs of three also now on offer, and the bottle is labelled with a cryptic question: 'Who is the famous wobbler? Seek the answer within.'
