The Grain Brewery shop is coming soon...

Local beer brewed with local grain could soon be available from a microbrewery shop in south Norfolk. The Grain Brewery was set up last year by Geoff Wright, who has worked for Suffolk brewers Adnams and Greene King, and his business partner Phil Halls. Now it is producing 7,000 pints a month from the site at South Farm in Alburgh, near Bungay, supplying around 40 pubs each month in Norfolk and the Waveney Valley. |
Mr Wright is planning to expand by opening a shop, which will sell bottled beers like Alburgh Bitter, Dark Oak, Blackwood Stout, Porter and Winter Spice. There will also be local food on sale from the shop in a converted farm building. He said: "There will be a radius within which the food has to come from, probably 10 or 15 miles."
The shop, which will start with one full-time member of staff, is intended to increase the profit margins on beer from the brewery compared with selling it from pubs.
And it is following in the footsteps of the successful Real Ale Shop in Branthill, near Wells, which, among other tipples, sells beer made from Branthill Farm's own barley. Mr Wright also hopes that, in future, barley can be grown on South Farm for use in the brewery.
South Norfolk planners will have to give their approval before the scheme can go ahead, A site visit by officers has already indicated that the views of the county council's highways department will be needed, as the road is narrow and in places single track.
and since the article...
The decorating and fitting of the shop is a long way towards completion, and planning permission has been granted by the parish of Alburgh. Fingers crossed, all will go through with other locals and the licence application. Come back to find out when the shop will be opening, and we can't wait to show you around the brewery and share a pint of Grain with you to celebrate! |
